A school's master schedule determines what is possible during the school day. Each year, it is important to revisit and reevaluate the schedule to deternine if it is optimizing the school's use of its most precious finite resources - time, talent (personnel) and space. The process of evaluating the schedule should begin with a review of data and discussion of the needs of students and the needs of teachers to support the students. During Common Planning Times (CPTs) teachers used post-it notes to record their thoughts regarding student needs, teacher needs and district/state/program requirements so that a schedule can be built around these driving forces.
Teachers welcomed the opportunity to share their thoughts regarding student needs, teacher needs and program requirements. During each Common Planning Time, teachers used post-it notes to record their suggestions. My work for the weekend is to type them out and get them back to the teachers so we can start sketching out scheduling opportunities.
